That is, 79you can’t use <code>.org</code> to cross sections: if <var>new-lc</var> has the 80wrong section, the <code>.org</code> directive is ignored. To be compatible 81with former assemblers, if the section of <var>new-lc</var> is absolute, 82<code>as</code> issues a warning, then pretends the section of <var>new-lc</var> 83is the same as the current subsection. 84</p> 85<p><code>.org</code> may only increase the location counter, or leave it 86unchanged; you cannot use <code>.org</code> to move the location counter 87backwards. 88</p> 89<p>Because <code>as</code> tries to assemble programs in one pass, <var>new-lc</var> 90may not be undefined. If you really detest this restriction we eagerly await 91a chance to share your improved assembler. 92</p> 93<p>Beware that the origin is relative to the start of the section, not 94to the start of the subsection. This is compatible with other 95people’s assemblers. 96</p> 97<p>When the location counter (of the current subsection) is advanced, the 98intervening bytes are filled with <var>fill</var> which should be an 99absolute expression. If the comma and <var>fill</var> are omitted, 100<var>fill</var> defaults to zero. 101</p> 102 103 104 105</body> 106</html> 107
