1The following is a list of files and features that are going to be 2removed from the U-Boot source tree. Every entry should contain what 3exactly is going away, when it will be gone, why it is being removed, 4and who is going to be doing the work. When the feature is removed 5from U-Boot, its corresponding entry should also be removed from this 6file. 7 8--------------------------- 9 10What: "autoscr" command 11When: Release 2009-09 12 13Why: "autosrc" is an ugly and completely non-standard name. 14 The "autoscr" command is deprecated and will be replaced by 15 16 the "source" command as used by other shells such as bash. 17 18 Starting with March 2009, both commands will be supported for 19 a transition period of 6 months after which "autoscr" will be 20 removed. During the transition period existing scripts and 21 environment variable names remain untouched for maximum 22 compatibiltiy; thse will be changed when support for the 23 "autoscr" command get's finally dropped. 24 25Who: Peter Tyser <ptyser@xes-inc.com> 26 27--------------------------- 28 29What: GPL cleanup 30When: August 2009 31Why: Over time, a couple of files have sneaked in into the U-Boot 32 source code that are either missing a valid GPL license 33 header or that carry a license that is incompatible with the 34 GPL. 35 Such files shall be removed from the U-Boot source tree. 36 See http://www.denx.de/wiki/pub/U-Boot/TaskGplCleanup/u-boot-1.1.2-files 37 for an old and probably incomplete list of such files. 38 39Who: Wolfgang Denk <wd@denx.de> and board maintainers 40 41--------------------------- 42 43What: Individual I2C commands 44When: April 2009 45Why: Per the U-Boot README, individual I2C commands such as "imd", "imm", 46 "imw", etc are deprecated. The single "i2c" command which is 47 currently enabled via CONFIG_I2C_CMD_TREE contains the same 48 functionality as the individual I2C commands. The individual 49 I2C commands should be removed as well as any references to 50 CONFIG_I2C_CMD_TREE. 51Who: Peter Tyser <ptyser@xes-inc.com> 52 53--------------------------- 54 55What: Legacy NAND code 56When: April 2009 57Why: Legacy NAND code is deprecated. Similar functionality exists in 58 more recent NAND code ported from the Linux kernel. 59Who: Scott Wood <scottwood@freescale.com> 60
