This makes a difference in MIPS 16 and 75microMIPS modes: when loading the address of a label which precedes 76instructions, <code>as</code> automatically adds 1 to the value, so 77that jumping to the loaded address will do the right thing. 78</p> 79<a name="index-_002eglobal"></a> 80<p>The <code>.global</code> and <code>.globl</code> directives supported by 81<code>as</code> will by default mark the symbol as pointing to a 82region of data not code. This means that, for example, any 83instructions following such a symbol will not be disassembled by 84<code>objdump</code> as it will regard them as data. To change this 85behavior an optional section name can be placed after the symbol name 86in the <code>.global</code> directive. If this section exists and is known 87to be a code section, then the symbol will be marked as pointing at 88code not data. Ie the syntax for the directive is: 89</p> 90<p><code>.global <var>symbol</var>[ <var>section</var>][, <var>symbol</var>[ <var>section</var>]] ...</code>, 91</p> 92<p>Here is a short example: 93</p> 94<div class="example"> 95<pre class="example"> .global foo .text, bar, baz .data 96foo: 97 nop 98bar: 99 .word 0x0 100baz: 101 .word 0x1 102 103</pre></div> 104 105 106 107 108</body> 109</html> 110
